subject: The Dangers of a False Prophet Self Defense DVD [print this page]

There are a number of things you could call people who sell a self defense DVD with no actual merit. They are criminals, charlatans, con artists but worst of all, they are endangering people's very lives with the garbage that they sell. Small, frail housewives all over the country are conned into thinking that they can become an expert in self defense within a few weeks. They eagerly purchase the DVD, practice all the moves religiously and are imbued with a new sense of confidence. They start to take chances they normally wouldn't and before they know it, find themselves in a situation that their dubious skills couldn't get them out of. They realize they have been taken for a ride but the consequences are dire.

No matter what anyone says, martial arts is not something that can be learned in ten easy classes. If you buy into all that you are essentially mocking those who have dedicated their lives to mastering their art. If it takes a kung-fu master 40 years to become an expert, what makes you think you will be one within 40 days? In skill terms you are not even able to tie your shoe in comparison to someone of even moderate ability. This means that those fraudulent videos that try and convince you that a few weeks is all you need are putting you in danger.

If it isn't enough to try and get you to emulate the likes of Chuck Norris in a fraction of the time and dedication it actually takes, you will find a self defense DVD that thinks you will purchase it because it has some deadly secret moves that have been lost for generations but have finally been brought back after a government ban. At this point it would be only right to mention that such moves don't exist for thousands of dollars let alone as part of a 3 for 2 offer. Amazing moves that can be learned in weeks at a low price. Sounds too good to be true. Probably because it's an outright scam!

This article should not be seen as a rant against every self defense DVD out there however. There really are some fabulous teachers who show you genuinely useful moves. The difference is that these men and women don't try and con you into believing that they are either super secret or easy to learn. A proper instructor will warn all prospective trainees that they will need to put more effort and dedication than they ever have before in order to get optimum results. If you can find a good hand to hand combat or close combat training video then do yourself a favor and buy it. Reputable experts can give you the lowdown on how to defend yourself at close quarters when someone attacks you.

Any DVD that tries to tell you how easy martial arts is isn't worth the disc it was recorded on. They may have some impressive marketing techniques but you better believe that there is no substance behind the style. Avoid these con artists and stay safe with a real self defense video.
