subject: The People Of Asia [print this page] In a region as vast as Asia, there are so many different peoples, customs, and languages that it would be hard to count them all. It is not possible to say that the people of Asia are "like this" or "like that," because what is true in one part of Asia may not be true in other parts. Still, it is possible to make a few statements that are true of nearly all of Asia Most of the people of Asia belong to the Mongoloid race. This is one of the three great races of mankind, the other two being Caucasoid and Negroid.
The Mongoloid people are a darkskinned people. They are called the "yellow" people but actually their skin colors range from a yellowish color to a dark, reddish brown-the skin color of the American Indians, who are also a Mongoloid people. The Mongoloid race is the most numerous in the world. But the Caucasoid, or "white," race has for hundreds of years controlled nearly all the wealth of the world. Within the last fifty years, the Mongoloid peoples have begun to seek a greater share of this wealth for themselves.
So, although there are so many different types of Mongoloid peoples in Asia, and although they live in different countries and speak different languages and have fought bitterly among themselves for thousands of years, they are now coming to feel that they are all one people. Besides this, the Mongoloid people of Asia (and of the many islands in the Pacific Ocean) feel themselves somehow allied with the Negroid, or "black," race of Africa, and also with the millions of Caucasoid people who live in Asia, but most of whom are somewhat darker-skinned than the European and American Caucasoids.
