subject: Is Your Relationship Meeting All Of Your Needs? [print this page]

Have you found your soul mate and are your needs being met? If your needs are being met, then most likely you are involved in a mature dating relationship. However, if your needs are not being met, then you have to do some work to get your relationship back in shape. Are you being selfish or are you putting your partners needs above your own?

We all have needs that have to be met and we have a need for love. We have a need for stability in our lives. We have a need for compassion. We have a need for unconditional love. We have a need for joy and happiness. We have a need for fun and good times. We have a need for honesty and vulnerability and genuine emotional maturity in our lives. All of these needs when they are met will add up to a mature dating relationship.

If you are not getting those previously mentioned needs met in your relationship, how are you going to turn things around and get those needs met? Should you bring this up in a discussion with your partner or is this something that you should remain quiet about and wait for your partner to bring it up? If you wait for your partner to bring this discussion up, he or she may never bring up the discussion. So, your needs are very important and you must take a step back and make sure that you realize that you do have these needs and you have a right to have them fulfilled. You also must take stock of the situation and make sure that you also meet the needs of your partner.

To be involved in a mature dating relationship, you need to find this balance and work together in a disciplined manner to get off to a good start in having a great relationship. So, when you realize that you have an obligation to fulfill your partners needs and he or she has that same obligation to meet your needs, then you need to get the discussion on this issue started. Don't be afraid of how your partner will react to this topic. If you are afraid of conflict and dont like to bring up discussions that involve these tough topics, you need to muster up the courage to just do it. Tell your partner that you want to be involved in a mature dating relationship and you have something important to discuss. Then in a calm manner express your feelings on this issue and that you have certain emotional needs that need to be met and you want to make sure that you are also meeting your partners needs. When you show your partner that you are trying to work together for the good of each other and your relationship, he or she should be more open to having a very genuine discussion about this issue. Having a mature dating relationship is a wonderful thing and you must work hard at achieving it and experiencing success in the dating relationship.
