All About Denim
Denim has been around since the 18th century, although its usage has changed dramatically, and denim shorts have been around almost just as long. It is now used to make everything from overalls and button down shirts to handbags and jewelry. Volkswagon even made Beetles with denim interior in the 1970s. Pretty groovy, right? However when one thinks of jeans, one imagines jean shorts.
Types of Shorts
The huge variety of shorts means there is an option for every individual. Everyone has his favorite brand, style, length and fit. Some people prefer black jeans rather than blue. An old pair of jeans can easily be altered to create a new pair of cut-off shorts, either with a stitched hem or with the edge left to develop a fringe that is distinctively denim.
Men tend to wear their shorts long, usually to the knee. Women prefer theirs tight and short. In fact, Catherine Bach made this style popular; she played a character named Daisy Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard television show, which first aired in 1979. The shorts, which were so tiny that censors made her wear flesh colored nylon beneath them, were an instant hit with the public. The jean shorts outlived the television series and still remain popular in today's culture.
