New MLM vsNew MLM vs. Old MLM

by Steve on September 6, 2010

I'm sure many people out there in the network marketing industry are like me. I was taught to build my business the old mlm way. What I mean is my upline told me to start off my business by making a list of everyone I knew. This included friends, family, coworkers, and any other acquaintances.

Once the list was done my job was to show them my offer. When they declined to get in business with me I would sell them a product.. I ran out of names on my list fast.

I was then tasked with getting prospects from my cold market - people I just met on the street. Again like many out there I ended up hanging out at malls, grocery stores, gas stations, etc just to meet someone new that day.

This went on for years with hardly any results. I wasn't reaching my goal of early retirement in less than 5 yrs. I was emotionally wrecked at this point. There had to be another way.

The answer had to be getting more leads. I knew things were moving toward the Internet so I began my quest to find out how to generate leads online.

I quickly found out that you could buy as many mlm leads as you wanted from various places on the net so I did. I thought I found the solution and started calling these lists with reckless abandon. However, I soon discovered that I was having the same results as if I just met these people on the street.

I went back to the Internet to find the answer. This business could work for me, but how?

Finally, I ran into some people who knew some people (networking, duh?!) who introduced me to a new mlm concept that was the paradigm shift I needed to change to explode my business.

It's called "attraction marketing." Let me explain. I could get a list of names, but there was more to it than that. The problem was who was on this list. I didn't know them from Adam. More importantly, 98% of that list wasn't even interested in mlm. They were cold contacts. I kept beckoning to the prospects' every call getting no shows, cancellations and many other frustrations encountered in this industry. I was doing everything backwards. I didn't know any different though. With no previous sales or marketing experience I diligently followed what my mentors told me worked for everyone..

So you see, the new mlm way to do business is simple. You must first add value to yourself. Then you can start adding value to others. When you become valuable people will be attracted to you. If you do this online you will multiply your results.

The first step is mastering the skills needed to build a list online, but that's only the start. Your list still hasn't connecte with you. Next, you have to gain credibility with your list by offering them products, services, or information of value for free. Finally, once your list likes you they will follow you anywhere - your business opportunity, buy a product, or anything else you wish to market to them.

Marketing yourself is the new mlm style that will explode your business. You need to be an individual that rises above the masses on the Internet. After that happens you'll have incoming phone calls daily with people wanting to join you in business.
