The Fu Mausoleum located in the eastern suburbs of China's Shenyang City is the expansive tomb complex of the founder of the Qing dynasty, Nurhachi and his queen. Encompassing an area of no less than 48 acres, the complex has been identified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The tomb is situated with the backdrop of the breathtaking Tianzhu Mountain, amidst grand scenery and a beautiful landscape. Work commenced on the magnificent royal tomb in 1629 and was concluded in 1651. The elegant and yet uncomplicated mausoleum complex may be subdivided into three main sections.

The first section is identified as the external component of the Frontispiece of Fuling Tomb the grand red gate. On each side of the Frontispiece may be seen Huibao (columns similar to those seen in Tiananmen Square), exquisitely crafted stone lions, stone tablets and memorial archways. The stone tablets in Mongolian, Manchu, and Han languages instruct the passer-by to dismount and proceed on foot, or face punishment.

When the visitor passes the Frontispiece the second section, the Sacred Way can be seen. Pairs of stone horses, lions, tigers and camels stand guard on both sides. At the Sacred Way's end the visitor will see the renowned 108 step stairway which reveals imperial power's sovereign right. A stele pavilion constructed in 1688 can also be seen.

Proceeding further the visitor will approach the final section of the mausoleum. The Square Castle, the principal construction of the site will draw the attention of the visitor with its castle-like architecture strongly representative of the Qing dynasty style. The Square Castle, roughly 5 m high, features small towers at each of its four corners. Beneath the Bao Castle (Treasure Castle) - located to the rear of the Square Castle the visitor will find the mausoleum of the Qing ruler and his queen.

The Fu Mausoleum was a focus of attention for royalty during the Qing era. Today the mausoleum is esteemed as a typical Qing dynasty construction and a treasured part of China's cultural heritage.
