subject: What Makes Email Marketing Effective Or Ineffective? [print this page]

One thing that most of the Internet surfers share is an email. It is free, very handy and people all over the world who has access to the Internet at least has one account. This is where the power of email relies on, its diversity and usability. Email marketing will permit you to do quick and repeated communication with your audience. You can advertise your services, products, your site and anything you may like many times over. With just pennies as an initial outlay you could setup a powerful campaign.

How would I go about setting up an email campaign? First of all you need to send your messages only to people that are interested in seeing your messages. These people are called targeted customers. Don't go sending your emails to other group of people because you will be wasting your time and money. Always personalize your emails, do you like to be called by your first name? Well do the same for your clients. This will increase your responses by over 50%. Remember that people get bombarded with emails every day, so make yours different and enticing. A headline with your prospects first name will call their attention. Put their name also in the body of the text to keep them reading.

Your title must grab the eyes of your reader. Your headline is the most important one liner of your email message, this is the first thing that your prospect will see when they are skimming all of their thousand messages. If you don't have an attention getter headliner, it doesn't matter how good your message is, no one will open it. Don't waste people's time, somebody will be interested in what you have to say but make it interesting and appealing.

Your first paragraph should be a summary of what you want to tell them about your service or product. Make your message an informative or educational one, don't try to hook them with a sales pitch because they will be gone in seconds. Refer to your headline and expand on the information you want to get across. Need to take care of them first by focusing on what are the benefits to your customers. Create excitement by defining what would the product do for them. You need to tell them in a few words what's in it for them.

Make your copy easy to read. Test your emails effectiveness. You should test the headline, the opening paragraph, and the body. Make sure you only change one thing at a time so you can accurately measure the results. Develop a great signature file. Your signature file is a 3 or 4 line footer that you can attach to all of your messages. It appears right below your name and should tell the person who you are and how they can contact you. You can include an email address, your phone number, URL, company name and slogan etc. Remember, the slogan should always focus on the benefits your prospect will receive.

A good email campaign will present the chance to meet with thousands, sometimes millions of people all around the world. But this opportunity is not only available to you but to many others, so there is a fierce competition. Write your message differently, with a human touch and not mechanically. Apply the techniques explained here about an eye-grabber headline and a first paragraph creating that need to get what you offer. If you do this you will stand out from the big crowd.
