Tinnitus could oftentimes be contributed to injury, illness, prolonged exposure to loud noise, aging, drug reactions, or could be from some other factors too. Since this symptoms are irritating to the afflicted person, it is why treatments have been improved, finding better means, to create a better Tinnitus relief. By using these treatments, a patient could acquire some relief. Tinnitus is not the disease in itself. It is just an expression of the current illness which the patient might already be having. Possibly, the illness, which gives the symptom of tinnitus, may damage the cells of the inner ear.

First thing that the doctor would look into when a patient has tinnitus, would be the wax inside the ear. If an ear has an abundant or hard wax, earwax exclusion would be done because it is one reason of having a tinnitus. But when the ear has minimal wax, then the doctor has to search for other culprits of the symptom. A vascular disease may be another factor that the doctor would eye for. If proven therefore that it is the reason for the symptom then medication may be prescribed to the patient to give a Tinnitus relief.

But in cases where medication is not effective, then surgery would be the next best thing to handle the tinnitus. Medications for other systemic problem can give a patient tinnitus. When this happens, the doctor would change the dosage, or give them other drugs or may stop the prescribed medicine. Another way of giving Tinnitus relief is Masking or covering of the internal noise. To be used periodically, white noise machine could facilitate the patient in sleeping. The soothing sound it produces can give the patients good sleep.

Age could be a factor of having a Tinnitus. Hearing aids or cochlear implants would be best in addressing the problem. By using the hearing aids, the patient can hear well. Thus, Tinnitus relief is experienced as the internal sound wouldn't be noticed because of the external sound that the ear is getting. Sometimes, drugs for anti-depressants and anti-anxiety could be effective in giving Tinnitus relief because of its calming effects.

A recent study showed that tinnitus, commonly called "ear noise" is a psychological matter and not of the structure of the ear as opposite to the old belief that the cause of tinnitus is the damage to the parts of the ear; including eardrums, cochlea, and nerve, due to the exposure of a loud sound and severe emotional or physical stress. A conclusion was drawn out from a certain study that tinnitus can only be noticed during the time when the patient is alone in a silent place for a long time.

That study, sprouted a new method of Tinnitus relief. It is called as the Habituation Therapy in which the treatment had 80 percent success rate during its trial. Tinnitus retraining therapy in specific has strong neurophysical evidence showing that the patient can ignore internal noise as it could ignore external noises that could be heard of everyday such as railways, refrigerator and other things. This therapy makes the brain get used to the internal sound as just like those of which are heard of externally every day.
