subject: Winning our diabetes [print this page] A paediatrician based in Besant nagar identifies a way to control diabetes and bring into remission without putting any stress on your other organs.
Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in India. With urbanisation rapidly in most parts of the country are leading sedentary lives with very little activity even while consuming food rich in carbo-hydrates and fats.
There is no cure for diabetes and it can only be controlled.
Dr.Ranjith Rao, a well-known paediatrician with more than 30 years of experience in the field of allopathic medicine and a family doctor to numerous families in the city, has identified an Ayurvedic medicine that puts the disease into remission. "This particular medicine, called Diabout, was created by Dr Ajay Kumar, BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery), Ayurveda College, Trivandram," says Dr Ranjith, "He claimed that the medicine could make Type 2 diabetics go into remission in five to six months." "Dr Ranjith was sceptical about Dr Ajay's claim but was fascinated by the find,"I was interested in knowing more about the medicine. On reading about it and studying its effects on the body. I found that it helpedstimulate the pancreas by giving it a rest from the stressful effects of allopathic medicine. Theoretically, the medicene allowed the natural healing process of the body to take its course", says Dr Ranjith.
So why is an allopathic doctor talking about Ayurveda? "For diabetes, even if you have good control over your condition with allopathic medicines, you will always suffer from some degree of end-organ damage. Doctors don't talk about it because they can't anything to stop it. This damage reduces your life expectancy by about five to ten years,"says Dr Ranjith,"This medicine actually presents diabetics with a way to combat the disease. However, in the beginning I was worriedabout the metal content of the medicines as Ayurvedic medicines are known to contain significant quantities of heavy metals such as lead and arsenic. I sent a sample of the medicine to a laboratory abroad where it was tested for adulterations. It was found to contain only vegetable extracts".
So what exactly does this wonder medicine do? " It makes the body capable of balancing its blood glucose levels on its own without drugs. The treatment plan I follow, is to initially supplement this medicine with allopathic drugs. After a few weeks I start reducing the dosage of the allopathic drugs and finally I cut them off," says Dr Ranjith, "I gave this medicine to seven patients and all of them responded well".
Dr Ranjith's findings are based on the results of a foolproof test used to detect diabetes known as the Glucose Tolerence Test (GTT). It cannot be faked. "The blood glucose levels of all my patients at the end of the GTT test, reduced dramatically over a period of five to six months. After returning to normal, some of my patients have been able to manage without drugs for up to three years while ordinarily they wouldn't have managed without drugs for three days"
