subject: Tips For Breaking Into A Pr & Communication Job Industry [print this page] Industry Insider Industry Insider
A very insightful and entertaining Q+ A about chemistry, chiropody and why money doesnt motivate the best minds in the PR & Communication jobs industry. We at Major Players sat with the industry experts and this is what we have for people looking for tips on how to get what they want in the PR industry.
What motivates you?
I think motivation comes from a deep place within a person. I dont think theres any one thing that motivates me, its certainly not money. Its a combination of a deep rooted need to be good at what I do and to be successful at what I do.
What inspires you?
No one person is good at everything. And weve been really successful as an agency by surrounding ourselves with people who have complimentary and collaborative skill sets. And I definitely find inspiration from the people I work with from the account execs to my fantastic board.
What you be doing if you werent doing this?
When I first left school, I actually wanted to be a chiropodist, but in those days you had to have chemistry degree and chemistry wasnt really my thing. But I think now Id probably train to be an occupational therapist because I think life is quite tough for a lot of people and quite stressful. Sometimes people just need somebody to talk to.
How do you keep up with the latest trends in your industry?
Its difficult to keep up with the latest trends, especially in technology as it changes every day. But I think the most important thing to do is to constantly read as much information as you possibly can through lots of different sources like universities and traditional news channels.
What are your industry peeves?
Technology has changed the PR industry so much. Email has made it a real time business and a lot of us got into PR because we love to write. I certainly find that you just dont have to time to think about things like we did years ago.
