If you're looking at trying different methods to find out the sex of your baby before its delivery, remember there is nothing more accurate than actually waiting till your baby is born. None the less, it can be fun trying some of these methods. I'm going to run through a few on them to give you an indication of what is available to you.
Myths/Old Wives Tales
- Let your wedding ring do the testing! Take your wedding ring and tie it on a piece of string over your belly, let the string dangle and if your wedding ring moves back and forth then it indicates you are having a baby boy. If it's in a circular motion then it's a baby girl.
- Is morning sickness telling you something? If you have avoided early morning sickness than it indicates you are having a baby boy. However morning sickness throughout the pregnancy indicates to a baby girl.
- Does the heart rate have the answers if you baby's heart rate is slower than 140bpm then its more likely to indicate a little boy and faster than 140bpm indicates a little baby girl
- How are you carrying? If the mom-to-be is carrying low it's more likely to be a boy whereas high indicates a little girl.
Medical indications
- A morphology ultrasound This would be by far the most popular ways to find out the sex of your unborn baby This type of ultrasound is usually carried out around the 20th week, although this method still isn't 100% accurate it is the most accurate without potentially harming your baby.
- Amniocentesis This type of testing involves taking a sample of the amniotic fluid by inserting a needle into the womb via the belly. This type of testing is done for genetic reasons ie diseases but as it comes with a range of risks e.g. miscarriage, it shouldn't be undertaking solely for the purpose of gender selection.
