subject: Selecting A Plan For Your Mobile Phone [print this page]

There are ways for one to make a better choice of a cellular plan. There never seems to be enough cellular phone plans to choose from, with different features and benefits. Before you agree to a cell phone plan, there are a lot of things to be mindful of. Take note of these factors and you should have an easier time shopping for a plan.

What do you need in your phone? Get an estimate of the number of minutes you use for calls, if you have an existing mobile phone plan. This information can be found on your first bill. Enumerate the things that you like and don't like with your plan. Are roaming charges billable, for example? Are you charged a high amount for daytime calls?

Research, research, research. Without research, how would you expect to successfully find a good plan that gives you what you need? The Internet is indeed a good place to look for offers and plans. Take note of all the plans and offers that every cell phone provider in your location offers. You can order a brochure or get a quote, but make sure the details are noted somewhere.

Once you've done your research, start comparing. Begin by comparing the cost of minutes used. Also note the cost per minute and total cost for all the minutes on your present plan. Do you get fees if you go over your minutes? Any other additional charges to get the phone? Can you still use or keep the phone you're using now? How much are the call, SMS, MMS, voice mail and Internet charges? Does the phone being offered suit your needs perfectly?

Compare warranty information too. What can your warranty help you with if your mobile phone stops working all of a sudden?

Finally, you need to take note of the length of the contract for all the plans you have reviewed. Do not consider any plans with onerous contract terms, including termination fees that are too high or terms that are too long.

These five steps should be of help, as you continue your research and look for the best cellular phone plan to sign up for.
