subject: Smiley Showdown Game Changes The Gaming Rules [print this page]

Smiley Showdown is a bit of a turn on the "Chain Reaction" niche flash games. You have one primary explosion to set off other circles that fly across the map, and each different face sends out different kinds of projectiles when fired. Depressed looking faces do not provide off as many shots as the coveted "alien face" that sprays the screen with purple shots.

Some contain no extra projectiles, and the challenge comes when trying to avoid the Smiles that will break your chain while hitting the better Smileys that boost your score.

In fact you may habitually find yourself repeating a level again and again because it's full of intolerant Ghost Smileys, just don't get dispirited because now and then all a level takes is a little stroke of luck and just the right first shot, it's fairly basic online game-play wise, and rather short.

Each level offers something distinctive, as they tend to mix and match which faces clutter up the screen. But the real fun comes with the flash game's wacky nature. It does not take itself seriously at all, and some of the achievements are pretty comical.

At the end Smiley Showdown does not bring too much new content or innovation to the table, but it is a a quirky little time waster with a sense of comedy that really saves it from being another mundane clone There are only a few levels in this flash game, and not tons of replay value, but some players may find satisfaction in playing over and over to achieve the perfect chains and get the highest scores possible.

Its strength comes in the fact that it is very simple and quick, you can start it up and buzz through a couple levels at a time which is what some people look for in a game. It isn't as deep or engrossing as certain other games, but it offers itself as a quirky alternative to some of the serious, dark narrative driven flash flash games that have become rather fashionable.
