subject: Lexmark X7675 Printer Review [print this page]

Small offices and home users will find the Lexmark X7675 of interest. This multi-function machine prints, scans, copies and faxes.

It is possible to connect the X7675 to a network by Ethernet and Wi-Fi. There is also a USB 2.0 interface so that the X7675 can be connected directly to a PC and a couple of jacks for a fax modem and a local handset. Photos can be printed directly from memory cards and USB keys, using a 2.4 inch colour LCD to let you preview the photos before printing.

Printing is done with one black and one colour Lexmark X7675 ink cartridge. They are installed below the scanner. The black inkjet cartridge that comes with the X7675 will last up to 500 pages and the colour inkjet 350 pages. If you want to print better photos there is a separate photo ink cartridge.

When tested the X7675 produced very acceptable quality prints with no notable defects. A page of ordinary text took 7.7 seconds to print in mono and 29.1 seconds in colour. Top quality A4 copies were done in roughly 62 seconds while 6x4 copies took roughly 72 seconds.

Scanning on the X7675 was OK. 70 seconds was the typical time it took to scan at 600 dpi which could have been a little faster and the colour accuracy was pretty good although not always 100 per cent accurate.

The X7675 makes creating copies straightforward with its well thought out design and screen. 45 seconds was the time it took create a colour copy and it you want you can make as many as 99 further copies which can be enlarged or reduced. You also have the option of copying from the flatbed scanner or the 25-page document feeder.

The X7675 makes faxing a doddle. Copies of scans can be kept on hard disc using the software that comes with the machine and email can be scanned and captured documents can be converted and edited with OCR. Faxes can also be sent remotely from the X7675.

The X7675 includes an automatic duplexer for printing on both sides of a page. One of the few real limitations is the fact that the paper tray only holds 100 sheets.

Overall the X7675 has a lot going for it. You can use it for many different purposes, it is well built and the five-year warranty gives peace of mind. This machine may not excel at anything compared to a single function machine but it doesn't do anything badly. I like the Lexmark X7675.
