subject: What Should You Do When The Upgrade Of Windows Xp Makes The System Inaccessible [print this page]

At many instances, when you install or perform an upgrade of Windows XP on your system then it may not pay off well. At times, you may not be able to start the system because of presence of any damaged setup file on the hard disk, which does not get overwritten during the upgrade. You should try certain corrective measures to try and address the situations. If the problem is not resolved, then this situation demands the use of a third-party hard drive recovery software to recover hard drive.

Let us take an instance in which you have upgraded your system to Windows XP. However, when you start the system it does not start. Either of the following error messages may be displayed in this case:

C0000221 (Bad Image Checksum)

STOP: C0000221 - Bad Image Checksum in ModuleName

STOP: C0000221 - Bad Image Checksum. User32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header check sum does not match the computed check sum.

Cause:

There could be the following reasons for this problematic situation:

There is a damaged file in the Windows folder, and when you performed the upgrade this file was not overwritten by the Setup program.

One or all of the RAM (Random Access Memory) memory modules, which are fixed in the motherboard, are defective. It may be possible that the RAM configuration is not compatible.

Resolution:

To resolve this issue, there are the following methods that you can perform:

Copy the User32.dll file from Setup CD: You should run the Windows XP Setup CD to overwrite the damaged User32.dll file. Restart the system after copying the file.

Remove or replace the problem RAM: You should replace the existing RAM from a new RAM. Or else, try to use different combinations of RAM to check and remove the faulty RAM.

Install Windows to a different folder: You should perform a parallel installation to another folder.

If you are still unable to find any working solution to this problem, then it is obvious that you would not be able to access the system as well. This is where the hard drive recovery tools come into picture as they perform windows hard drive recovery without damaging the files on the hard drive.

The most trusted hard drive recovery software in the business is Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery, which recovers hard drive from all kinds of storage media. With the ability to retrieve data from exFAT, FAT, and NTFS file systems, this hard drive recovery utility is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, Server 2003, XP, and 2000. The USP of this Windows hard drive recovery tool is that it provides a Boot CD that is of immense help when the system does not boot.
