subject: Moms: Want To Go To College? [print this page]

Getting an education continues to be a huge key to being successful professionally and in life. Unfortunately many people don't have access to quality education opportunities. It provides a strong foundation for future generations when their moms can expand their own knowledge.

The Grants for Mothers program is one that aims to highlight the benefits and opportunity for education. This federal program was initiated in 2009 as a way to help moms of all types go to school. The program draws funds from the federal Pell Grant allotment and awards as much as $5,000 per person. There is a significant list of all the school-related costs that can be paid for with the $5,000 grant. In all the system aims to be open, effective and very beneficial.

Diversity is an important word as it relates to the list of acceptable majors. Practically any majors and careers are suitable. Business and industry are full of interesting careers, and they often begin with adequate higher education. Accomplishing personal work goals always begins with taking advantage of good opportunities. The Pell Grant scholarships for moms provide a strong building block for future opportunity.

Internet resources are very beneficial to career development. There are many publications that provide information about multiple industries, such as the Occupational Outlook Handbook. The OOH is a Department of Labor publication that compiles current information about employment practices. As its name implies, the handbook is primarily valued for its ability to analyze the outlook of a job sector ten years down the road. CareerOneStop is another federal resource. Professional networking sites can also give you access to important job information. Keeping a close eye on the similarities among the data can help point out clues in employment.

Higher education is probably even more important in troubled economic times. When work production increases again, there will be a need for hard-working, knowledgeable people who can get the job done. The Grants for Mothers initiative can help alleviate a little of the burden that's placed on moms.
