The landscape, environment and climate of Switzerland lends itself to being the place to go when it comes to extreme sports. The mountainous terrain is a playground for adrenaline junkies from around the world. Interlaken, which is around 50km south east of Bern, has become the capital of extreme sports not just in Switzerland, but the whole of Europe.
With a whole host of sports on offer for novices and experts, the city also has a number of shopping districts, restaurants, bars and clubs for those looking to avoid any potentially limb breaking activities. However, most people who visit this region will want to have a try at one of the many activities on offer.
A growing sport that many may not have heard of is snow kiting. This is basically where the popular sport of snowboarding meets windsurfing. All you really need is a snowboard, power kite and some body protection. The kite pulls you along and helps you pull off some pretty incredible tricks. The freedom to go wherever you want opens up the mountain into a giant playground. No more will you have to sit in long lift lines as the kite can pull you up the slopes as well as down them. Snow kiting is a sport usual enjoyed by experienced riders, but there are beginner courses available for any brave souls out there.
If you fancy getting off your skis or snowboard to give your legs a rest, one of the most breathtaking things you can do in Interlaken is skydiving or helidiving over the incredible Swiss Alps. Novices can pay for a tandem jump from an airfield, but for a truly unique experience you really need to try helidiving. The drop zone overlooks the views of Lake Zurich and is definitely only for the most adventurous as you have to build up the nerve to throw yourself out the door.
Another activity that doesnt need skis or a board is canyoning. Get away from the slopes and enjoy the gorges, valleys and cliff sides. Canyoning lets you play around on some of Switzerlands breathtaking scenery. Cliff jump into icy waters, slide down waterfalls and swim through crystal clear waters and enjoy the views around you.
As well as traditional adrenaline sports like snowboarding and skiing, you can really ramp it up by adding a helicopter. Interlaken is the perfect place to strap on your skis or board, hitch a ride on a helicopter and explore pristine off-piste skiing like nowhere else in the world. There is nothing better than fresh powder, open terrain, no lift lines and some truly incredible views as you find your way back down the mountain.
Switzerland holidays are ideal for adrenaline junkies from around the globe. Visit Interlaken if you want to experience some of the best sports Europe has to offer for both beginners and experts alike.About the Author:
