subject: How My Ipad Gave Me An Opportunity To See A Major Hostage Crisis That Stunned A Nation [print this page]

This last Aug 23 was a lonely day for the Philippines because former police officer by the name of Rolando Mendoza took Hong Kong tourists hostage and in the end of the day was killed along with 7 other people inside a bus.

I usually have no concern with these kinds of events but this one was particularly different. Here is why.

I was just browsing the internet last week when I happen to see a blog suggesting a very useful application for the iPad that can update you with breaking news 24/7. This so called cool iPad app is from Fox news and after reading the description and I love Fox already in the first place, I decided to download it to my pad. Knowing the news directly was an idea the quite appealed to me.

Though at first when I got it, I wasn't really the exact thing that I was thinking of having but since it was for free anyway, I thought of giving it a try for a couple of weeks. I was able to purchase my iPad insurance online and it was comprehensive and didn't give me hassles so I was thinking it this app couldn't that bad.

So I got the Fox news app and it was running ok in my iPad. Within 2 days I was already appreciating it, getting breaking news and even update stock market news as well. But at this particular flash news about a hostage crisis in Manila last August 23 really was the one that caught my attention.

It got my eyes since the headlines was a name that sounded familiar to me that I had to read the story and watch the video of the so called stand-off. Maybe if not for this Fox app that sent me breaking news directly in my iPad, I would have learned about this by next week!

At that precise moment I decided that getting this application was not a mistake after all. Like getting comprehensive insurance for iPad, this is probably the second wisest things I have done in connection with my iPad that I got online.

That pleasing experience I had when I purchased iPad insurance online opened my mind that getting online applications online was such a bad idea if I was getting it from authentic companies like Fox.

This event made me remember that the hostage taker they killed was one of the 10 outstanding policemen awarded by JCI in the 1980's that I saw in my uncle's old picture collection.

My uncle was once an active member of JCI and he collected a lot photos and scrap book. It seems that Mendoza was decorated cop; I looked it up the moment I read the news in my iPad.

What happened to this man that pushed him to do such a horrific act of violence is something I'm sure will be the topic of discussion for months to come.
