subject: Various Long Hair Care Tips [print this page]

Long hair requires more care and attention as compared to hair of normal length and short length. Washing and drying long hair can also be hard and difficult task to perform, following are some of the useful tips by which you can manage and take care of your long hair.

If you have long hair and like to make braid or ponytail then make sure that you do not sleep with tightly tied hair as stress cause severe breakage and hair loss. Reduce the usage of clips, bows and untreated bands to prevent your hair from breakage, use treated bands or scrunchie while making a braid or ponytail.

If you have short hair and planning to grow your hair then it is always good to get your hair trimmed after 2 or 3 months for the effective growth of hair. If trimming will not be provided to the hair then you might face the problem of split ends which causes hair breakage and you might loose the beauty of your hair. It is not good to use a brush for detangling your hair because your hair might break off.

Use fingers, wide toothed comb or even a pick for detangling your hair, while detangling long hair start from the tips of your hair and then proceed towards the roots of your hair. Pay attention to the tangled area and detangle only once in a downward direction. One must be very much gentle while detangling hair; hair should not be pulled downwards hardly or harshly to avoid hair breakage. Try to detangle your hair before washing them as you will face no difficulty while drying and styling your hair. After taking a shower do not dry your hair with a dry towel as you will find your hair tangled again. Use silk pillow cases or satin pillow cases instead of cotton pillow cases, so that your hair may not get caught while sleeping.

Brushing is an important thing to do because brushing allows the hair oils to spread all across the length of your hair. Long strokes are always effective while brushing if they are started from roots of the hair.
