subject: The Benefits of an Exercise Bike [print this page]

With all of the new types of equipment the exercise bike frequently gets overlooked. The exercise bike has been around for

numerous years, which might think that they are not as effective as some of the newer types of fitness equipment or are

outdated. However, there are numerous people who consider an exercise bike as providing a reasonable, consistent, and fun,

means of losing weight, improving cardio functions, and exercising.

An exercise bike can provide all the benefits of riding a bicycle. They have much less impact on the hips, joints and other

joints that provide a good cardio workout. Most exercise bikes have computerized or manual controls that permit you to adjust

the speed and resistance. Many exercise bikes come with cardio workouts and heart monitors that are already programmed in.

There are many styles and prices of exercise bikes available.

In addition, with an exercise bike, you don't have to worry about bad weather, dogs, or traffic. You can exercise in the

convenience of your own home and even read a book or watch television you exercise. All exercise bikes provides a workout

that is low impact that most people feel is an advantage over exercising on a treadmill. The strain on the feet, ankles,

knees, and other body parts that occurs with running or walking can result in discomfort or swelling in the joints. This can

produce new problems or irritate old injuries. An exercise bike provides an exercise that is non weight bearing which reduces

the impact on these areas.

Among customers and in the health and fitness industries, there is considerable debate about which machines provide a better

cardio workout and burn more calories. While there is evidence on both sides of the argument, most people think that exercise

bikes that have dual action optimize heart health and weight loss. A workout on a treadmill is less effective if the

exercisers hold onto the hand supports as opposed to pumping your arms to the motion or swing your arms.

Although elliptical trainers are another exercise option that provides a low impact workout many feel that they don't provide

the same cardio benefit. Rowing machines can be hard on the back, more difficult to use, and are boring. Most other fitness

equipment also has disadvantages which makes an exercise bike a good selection for the overall satisfaction and

effectiveness. Consumer purchasing proves that an exercise bike continues to be one of the best selections for fitness

training and exercise.
