Microsoft has done this! After one month the end of Vista SP1 was posted to the server for each and everyone to download. There are all kinds of productivity in the service pack that will make the operating system more attractive to users who have a household for the upgrade. Although Im skeptical, and only if it is to sway anyone to jump on the bandwagon Vista.

Shortly after Vista SP1 has been completed, we decided to give it a whirl and see if Microsoft has actually prevented the use of crack, they said they did. Installed copy of Vista SP1, and an OEM BIOS crack is not working. It took us only a few minutes find another crack , although not work, and Im sure Microsoft is going with his head down, because they do not patch more cracks at the time of SP1. Do not expect that every patch crack, but something is wrong, if only it took me a few minutes to find another crack work. Since that time already pushed update to properly verify that the cracks are installed and notify the user, but does nothing else.

So it looks like piraters and users are both the real benefit that Vista Service Pack 1 has to offer. Downloads will be available via Windows Update at some point(I do not see it yet), but you can download the standalone package, if you do not want to wait. But these are fairly large size and may have a while to download to complete:

SP1 Vista 32-bit download (434.5MB) Vista SP1 64-bit download (726.5MB)

Microsoft has a pretty extensive list of improvements in Vista SP1 , and instead of listing them all pulled out the ones I consider most important:

improved SRT(Startup Repair Tool), which is part of the Windows Recovery Environment(WinRE), can now fix your computer unbootable due to a lack of certain operating system files. increases the efficiency of browsing network file shares by consuming less bandwidth. Improves power consumption and battery by means of addressing the issue that causes the hard drive spinning when should continue to spin down, in certain circumstances. improves the speed of adding and download files to and from a compressed(zipped) folder. improves performance compared to the performance of Windows Vista across the following scenarios: 25% faster when copying files locally on the same disk on the same machine 45% faster when copying files from a remote system than Windows Vista SP1 to the system 50% faster when copying files from a remote system to local SP1 SP1 system

improves the assessment of the progress of copies when copying files in Windows Explorer to about two seconds. includes improvements to Windows SuperFetch, which contribute to further improve resume times, in many environments. Windows Vista SP1 includes a new compression algorithm for RDP(Remote Desktop Protocol) that helps reduce network bandwidth required to send bitmaps or images via RDP. Compression, which may be selected by administrators via Group Policy settings, is transparent to all RDP traffic, and typically reduces the size of the RDP stream by as much as 25-60%, based on preliminary test results. Enable this feature, reboot to reduce handling technology designed to maximize uptime. It works by allowing Windows components to be updated(or patched) while they are still in use by a running process. Hotpatch-enabled update packages are installed using the same methods of traditional update packages, and will not cause a system reboot. SP1 contains several changes that will allow producers and consumers on the desktop computer to select the default search program similar to the way out for companies, select a default browsers and media players. This means that in addition to the numerous ways a user can gain access to third party search solution in Windows Vista can now get into your preferred search results from additional entry points in the Start menu in Windows Explorer and Windows Vista SP1. Third party software vendors simply register request search using the newly provided protocol in Windows Vista SP1 will enable these options for their clients. SP1, Windows Vista will report on system memory, and not the report of system memory available for your operating system. Therefore, the 32-bit systems with 4 GB 4 GB of RAM will report all in many places throughout the OS, such as the System Control Panel. But such behavior is dependent on having a compatible BIOS, so not all users may notice this change.
