subject: The Roman Empire [print this page]

The legend of Rome states that the descendants of Aneas were born and their mad uncle wanted them killed and threw them into the river. They were rescued by a she-wolf and brought up and started thesettlementof Rome. Romulus took control and set up the customary monarchy. The Romans to start had quite an oddtypeof rule. They made almostin-honorable practices of tricking woman into going to festivals just so they could capture them. They made many wars that were spotty but that was war. The Romans most often won beating their neighbors. Mostcommonwere the Etruscans who were their larger and arch enemy for many decades, Eventually their new and great forces beat the enemy and by the end of their monarchy they had taken over most of north Italy becoming the new powerhouse.

Rome was founded in legend by Romulus and Remus, descendants of Aeneas a prince of Troy. They were left to die but cared for by a she-wolf until they made the cities. Romulus eventually killed Remus in a quarrel and Rome was founded along the Tiber River. Rome had a hard time starting out and had to capture Sabine maidens to marry with. Then in 509 b.c. Rome changed government into a republic a new trend in the surrounding lands. The new Roman government had a consul and a senate both had to be Patricians or the wealthy class of Rome. Later the Plebeians or poorer people got a officer to veto any laws against them. Once Rome had their government they were on a roll capturing all of Italy growing into a powerhouse with new tactics and infrastructure of the entire empire. With their power they found another people that were threatening the Carthage Empire, they battled them in three Punic wars.to sum it up Rome took the water and forced the Carthage's armies to go through Spain and up which was suicidal and Rome was able to hop down to Carthage and easily kill their hope of conquest. More governmental reform followed along with Gauis Marius setting up a new army basis that allowed the soldier's allegiance to their general and not the empire. Continuing their growth and bigger armies there would have to be one army that would revolt and this army was led by Caesar.

The Fall of Rome was an extremeevent that could of beenseen coming for a very long time. Rome had very extended borders that were very vulnerable and if not left to a good emperor the empire could easily collapse. This is what happened soon, when the visi and ostrogoths came marching past the borders and swarmed into these unprotected lands that already had a large split. The split was between the east and west. There was the Byzantine Empire which made it pretty far. Then there was the West empire, this was the traditional Roman Empire and marked the fall of rome. With the barbarians sacking rome this was the end of all the greatness and rome would never ever be the same again.
