Digital cameras for their power source use batteries just as other electronic portable devices do. There can be some problems with the rechargeable batteries as they can provide power for limited time.

So it is important to have knowledge about camera and its features that utilize most of the energy from the battery and how more power can be squeezed from the battery of the digital camera. As there are different battery types of digital cameras and they might use the rechargeable or the disposable batteries. There are different technologies of the rechargeable batteries like nickel cadmium, lithium-polymer and lithium-ion. Although advancements have been made over the last years in the technology of batteries, but still the batteries of digital cameras do not last much longer.

It can be very irritating for a person to know that the camera battery has lost its charge when he finds great opportunity of taking picture. The features of all digital cameras are not same when their consumption of power is considered. Some features of the digital cameras may consume more power from the battery and hence the camera battery will loose its power quickly. So it better to have the knowledge of such features that consumer more energy and their use should be minimized or avoided to save power and get more battery time.

LCD screen of the digital camera is one of the biggest consumers of the battery power. The other major energy consumers are the motors that help in the movement of the digital camera's mechanical components like the movement of lenses while zooming and focusing. The photos taken can be viewed on the digital camera's LCD screen. Pictures in some cameras can also be taken by using their LCD screen rather than the conventional view-finder. LCD screen comparatively consumes more battery power. That is one of the major reasons why the LCD (liquid crystal display) screens of the digital cameras turn off after certain time period of no usage.
