subject: An Introduction To Yaskawa Servo Motors & Drives [print this page]

For nearly 100 years Yaskawa has been one of the leading companies involved in mechatronics supplying an incredible range of motion control products all over the world. The company manufactures and develops such items as controllers, inverter drives and servo drives. In the article below I examine Yaskawa servos including Junma, SmartStep, Sigma-2 and Sigma V.

Sigma-V Servo Systems

The latest range of Yaskawa servo motors, Sigma V, set new standards for competitors to attempt to match. Sigma-5 servo motors feature fantastic response but also an excellent settling time of 0-4 ms. The Sigma-5 servo amplifier features the industry's highest performance with advanced autotuning with real-time adaptive load control. Available rotary models from 50W to 15kW, torque of 0.159 to 95.4Nm, and speeds as fast as three thousand RPM. Available in 100, 200 and 400V versions with a 1.6 kHz frequency response. Linear models from 12.5 to 2000N at speeds as fast as 5 m/Sec. Both available in either single phase or three phase. With Sigma-5 servo systems available in a wide range of models you can be sure to find one to match your individual requirements.

Sigma-2 Servo Systems

Sigma II servomotors are renowned for their reliability in terms of quality and performance they are unbeatable. The Sigma 2 servo amplifiers are very compact and feature analogue and pulse inputs as standard. Automatic functions include tuning and motor recognition. Sigma-2 servomotors are available in five linear and 6 rotary types. Facilities for indexers, motion controllers and field busses are available by the simple addition of an optional card and command references, torque and speed can be captured using the available software (SigmaWin and SigmaWin Plus).

Sigma-2 servo motors are available with powers from 30W to 55kW (torque 0.159 to 95.4Nm), and speeds as fast as 6000 RPM. Available in input voltages of 100VAC / 230VAC / 480VAC and three phase and single phase versions. With Sigma 2 servo systems available in a wide range you can be sure to find a model to suit your specific application requirements.

Junma Systems

Junma servo systems supply a cost effective solution for medium inertia compact motor servo systems. The Junma servo motors and drives feature the expected quality and reliability. Featuring high speed, high accuracy, high torque and high response these servos require no setting up with plug and play ease of use. Yaskawa Junma systems are available with motor powers ranging from 100W to 750W (torque 0.318 to 2.39Nm) with speeds of up to 4500 RPM, available with suitable single phase drives.

SmartStep

SmartStep systems provide a simple route to progress from stepper simplicity to the capability of servo systems. Using dip switches pulse train inputs can be configured and the remaining setup procedure is performed by auto-tuning. SmartStep benefits include 300% peak current for start up. SmartStep servo systems are available with powers from 30W-750W, torque 0.09 to 2.39Nm, with speeds as fast as 3000 RPM, with single phase drives.
