Many homes throughout the country have some sort of grill in their backyard. From the charcoal grill to the gas grill, there are many types and sizes out there for everyone. One grill that is coming to the forefront are the infrared grills. One needs to do their research on which is right for you as they can run expensive. These grills have been around since the 1980's. The popularity of this grill seems to be growing as more grill companies are selling them.

One question you may ask is how is this different from any other grill. That can be answered in looking at the way they cook the food. You may be under the assumption that using infrared means no flame. This is not entirely true. When heating this grill up, you will still start the grill by using propane or natural gas. This flame heats up the ceramic tile in the bottom of the grill.

The way traditional grills cook the food is through convection or conduction. They use hot air to heat the food. This can lead to not cooking the food evenly. The infrared grill does not cook through either of these methods. This grill cooks with heat by radiation. There is a misconception that would mean cooking with a laser. That is not true. Some may think to compare this with a microwave but they do not cook the same. With a microwave, you can have hot spots in your food and also not have it cooked in other spots.

Getting the ceramic tile heated up will take some time. Be aware that this grill will get much hotter, much faster than your traditional grill does. Using radiation to cook your food means that it will cook more evenly. This grill will also cut your actual cooking time in half.

There is still much speculation on whether cooking with radiation is safe. Many people did not want the microwave when it first came out but now microwaves are everywhere. No one is really sure what the side effects, if any, are of cooking with this method. Whether it is safe for you to cook your food with this type is solely one of a personal opinion.

One other advantage of cooking with this grill is it can be used in any type of weather. Rain, wind, and colder temperatures all affect cooking and heating of a traditional grill. This does not happen with an infrared. Also, there are less flare-ups on this grill. Anything that falls down on the tile will basically vaporize. With charcoal grills there can be flames and fires flare up that is dangerous and can burn the food. This does make you able to monitor the grill from farther distances and makes it safer for everyone around.

Using grills are a favorite summer activity for most families. With the infrared grill, this can be a year round experience. This cooks much hotter and much faster than a typical grill will. Be sure to do your research before purchasing one of these grills. There are a few different brands so you need to find the right one for you and your family.
