Affiliate marketing, while seemingly easy at first glace, is a challenging undertaking. Many are lured in by what seems to be easy money, but marketing involves selling whether you are going door to door, making cold calls or selling online. People are not pushovers to buy what you are selling just because you place a product in front of them. Getting conversions is challenging, but with cost per action or CPA affiliate offers, the bar for making a conversion is much lower because you are providing a lead instead of making a sale.

CPA affiliate offers have been increasing in popularity recently. One primary reason a company might decide to use CPA for marketing their product is that they want to bring the final sales and marketing effort in-house. The affiliate marketer provides a lead which can consist of as little as an email address. Once a company has the email address, they take over in marketing their product, but the affiliate marketer is paid for the lead.

One thing that an affiliate marketer needs to keep in mind is that CPA conversions pay much lower amounts, often as little as a dollar. The conversion rates are typically higher, especially when there is a free promotional item involved, but it leaves little room for the affiliate marketer's expenses. This makes pay per click or PPC marketing more challenging as one usually needs to keep marketing costs down to a few cents per click to have a positive return on investment.

A better alternative for the affiliate who is marketing CPA offers is to create landing pages to pre-sell a product before sending a lead on to the actual offer. One effective type of landing page to use is one where you describe your personal experience with the offer. This means actually signing up to an offer. Do not use your affiliate link in such a situation as it may result in you being banned from a program. When you sign up, take in the entire experience including the emails and offers that you receive as a result of providing an email address and zip code. Are they overwhelming? Is the free offer hard to achieve? Having this knowledge will enable you to provide an authentic account of your experience to a potential lead. It may scare some away, but the ones that click through to the offer page will be more likely to convert.

If you are taking the time to build a landing page, it is often helpful to discuss more than one CPA offer. That way if you are unable to convert on one offer, you may be able to convert on a competing offer. As with any affiliate marketing campaign, build in appropriate tracking so you can determine which methods are working. Try new methods and split test to see which one produces the highest conversion rates.

CPA offers are the hottest thing right now in affiliate marketing. Try a few out and see if they work for you. With a little testing, you may find that they can offer another profitable component to your affiliate marketing business.
