Dewitt, NY January 5, 2010: Since the Fourth Quarter 2009 issue of The MHEDA Journal Online, the leading online magazine for the forklift, storage and handling, and general material handling equipment industries, was published in October, an online exclusive article has been added to the site that did not appear in the print version of the magazine. Diane Lustenader, a human resources expert from Lake Associates in Albany, NY, tackled the issue of Social Security and Medicare and highlighted how the 2010 numbers for each compare to 2009. The article states, For the first time in history, there is no cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in 2010. The full retirement age (FRA) is 66. Many of the Social Security figures relate to when a person attains FRA. Lustenader takes the reader through several comparisons, using charts to clearly illustrate how each year matches up to the other. Some facts to note: FICA tax rate remains at 7.65 percent for both employees and employers Maximum monthly benefit at FRA rose to $2,346 Earnings required to earn one credit (maximum of four per year) increased to $1,120.
