Mostly oily hair is associated with an overactive gland that causes the release of greater amounts of oil. People with oily hair often complain about their hair being flat and greasy. While this is a problem, it is for a fact that the oil prevents the hair shafts from breaking and keeps the scalp in a good condition.

Due to more oil being present, oily hair need to be washed thoroughly to remove the oil and dirt. You should use a gentle shampoo on oily hair and it is also a good idea to leave the shampoo in the hair for a few minutes before washing. The hair should be rinsed with cool water so that the pores on the scalp close. You should also use a shampoo that is especially designed for oily hair.

Using a conditioner for oily hair is also advisable. However, you should not apply the conditioner to the roots or scalp and should apply it only the middle or the end. If you use a blow dryer, you should first towel dry the hair and then should use the blow dryer. If you have oily hair, it is also helpful to avoid the use of too much oil in your food. You should prefer eating vegetables so that your hair stays healthy.

You should take care to use a shampoo and conditioner separately and should avoid the use of two in one shampoo and conditioner. If you want your hair to be less oily, you should also avoid vigorous brushing of the hair. Vigorous brushing tends to spread the oil from the roots to the ends of the hair. Too much and frequent touching of the hair can also release more oils.

If there is some day when your hair needs a wash and you are not able to wash the hair, you can apply some powder in the scalp and then wipe the hair with a towel. The powder will absorb the oil and you can spend a day with good-looking hair. Getting highlights is another option you can consider as this is known to dry out the hair.
