subject: Advice Breaking Up - How To Break Up The Easy Way [print this page]

A break up is never easyA break up is never easy. There's no way around the heartbreak. One of you probably will get hurt. Maybe you will be very mad or get really depressed. Remember that if you both don't get emotional, you shouldn't have been in the relationship in the first place.

Here are the 5 "DO's" when you want to break up the easy way and make it hurt as less as possible:

FACE 2 FACE

Make an appointment and meet somewhere private. You want to avoid the embarrassment of breaking up in a crowdy restaurant when you can't handle your emotions. Just don't break up over the phone or leave a message. How would you feel when you get home, pushed the "play"-button of your answering machine and heard that your life was over!

BEAT AROUND THE BUSH

Tell it straight up. The truth hurts, but it's better than lying or having him or her guess. It would seem easier sometimes to avoid each other. For example when you just don't want to pick up your phone or you want to go shopping somewhere else to avoid meeting each other. You should leave it be for a while. Create a bit of a distance untill you feel more comfortable to talk. Don't wait to long though, remember that you want to break up the easy way!

BE HONEST

Tell the truth, but do it nicely. Yes, honesty does last and it makes you feel better afterwards. Just explain that you feel the spark in your relationship has gone and that you don't see a future romantically anymore. Or be honest and say that you just don't feel the same way anymore.

BE CONFIDENT

If you are the one breaking up, then he or she will get hurt. Especially if they don't see it coming. When they still have strong feelings for you, this will get emotional. Those feeling won't go away just because you want out of the relationship. If you can't handle the tears and you feel you are likely to give in, you know you are the only one to blame here. Don't let them sway you back into something you don't want.

BE NICE

Try to put it in a way that is not mean. There is no need to deliberately hurt each other or pick a fight to get it over with. Try not to name a list of things you secretly didn't like. Treat him or her in a way that you would like to be treated if they would be breaking up with you. Remember they are human to.
