subject: Courier Software For Windows Mobile [print this page]

Most courier software needs to be designed to perform in several ways. It needs to run on a desktop platform for use in the dispatch office. It needs to have a web component that customers can interface with in order to do things like place order requests and track their packages. Finally, it needs the mobile component which will be installed on the hand held devices carried by drivers in the field. While there are really only three major desktop platforms to choose from, there are several in the mobile field. Windows Mobile is one such option, and there are a number of software programs that are a good example of courier software designed to work on that OS.

This is software which provides a complete solution. It runs on the desktop platform and on the web, and its mobile component is designed to work with Windows Mobile devices. There are some good reasons why it can be beneficial for a company to decide to go with software which runs on Windows Mobile as opposed to other mobile operating systems.

The first reason for this is that when you run software on Windows mobile, there is just less chance of you having problems with the communication of information between the various systems involved in your courier operation. The fact is that Windows systems work well with other Windows systems because they are designed to do so. There is a good chance that you are running Windows in your offices, as there is with most of your clients. This makes running Windows Mobile devices an advantage.

Another great thing about Windows mobile is that there is less of a learning curve. Although it is its own OS, it certainly has things in common with other great Microsoft products. This can make it easier to learn for your drivers in the field. While they might not have experience with Windows Mobile, they certainly will with Windows, making it easier for them to understand that mobile OS than some of the other options that are out there.

The other great thing about running Windows mobile devices is the support. When you run a company, if you need tech support, you need it right away to keep your business running smoothly. Sometimes there can be confusion about where the support responsibility lies when there is a conflict between a mobile and desktop OS. In this case if there is a problem, you will clearly receive support from Microsoft.
