Common Wealth Games 2010 Delh is a very prestigious event for our country as this is for the first time that CWG are held in India. Prior to this India got the privilege to host Asian games in 1951 and 1982.
Common Wealth Games will be held in Delhi between 3rd October to 14th October. This is one of the largest multi-sport events, and it is the nineteenth edition of Common Wealth Games that our country is hosting in October 2010. Such kind of grand event is organised for the second time in Asia.
A very important fact associated with the game is that it is going to be the costliest CWG ever. The estimated budget is 1.6 billion dollars and thus it is said that Delhi government is working hard to complete all the preparations before the games begin.
Due to the Common Wealth Games 2010 Delhi many infrastructural changes have occurred in the city. In order to run the event smoothly new venues are being set up. Seventy two countries will be participating in this grand event and thus on the eastern bank of Yamuna a village is constructed known as the Delhi Game Village in order to accommodate athletes and officials. The area that it will cover is about 63.5 hectares.
The opening and closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi will be done at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. A total of 17 games will be held in the stadium during the CWG. The sports that are included will be- Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Bowls, Boxing, Cycling, EAD events, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Rugby sevens, Shooting Squash, Table Tennis and Weightlifting.
Delhi government has made special preparations for this occasion. Transport facilities have been improved as they have introduced DTC buses and AC Metro feeder buses. In order to travel all around the city 5000 new cabs have been added to the local transport. Above this public holiday is declared on 14 October i.e. the closing ceremony of Games. And as far as security is concerned then to monitor any problem special equipments like electronic surveillance, CCTV, X-ray baggage scanner etc are placed on the important locations.
