There are a range of things that need to be considered when sending your label to the printers. The decision you make will depend on the purpose of your custom labels, but it is an essential thing to consider if you wish to ensure your label is appropriate for its use and likely to achieve its goals.

The first thing to consider is what type of label is it? The most common type of label used and printed is a product label. When determining label size, it is worth remembering that the label should cover most of the product so the brand or product maker is easily identified.

When producing labels for your products it is important to consider the size and colour of your label. Although most companies stick to having the company colours on their product labels, you can be as creative as you like. If you feel like using every colour of the rainbow, then feel free, but make sure the design fits the theme and is suitable for the product.

If you are printing a warning label you need a different approach. Warning labels are usually printed as large as possible and the label size is not determined by the size of the product. Because they are warning labels, the information on them should be able to be seen clearly from quite a distance.

When thinking about colours for a warning label, bright oranges, yellows and reds should be used as people will instantly recognise the colours and associate them with a warning. The more colourful and eye catching the label is, the more effective the warning message will be.

Smaller labels for personal items such as notepads or stationary can be of any colour and design. Again, the size of the label should really match whatever you are putting it on but the decision is really yours.
