subject: High Altitude Romance [print this page]

As the oldest flight technology for carrying passengers, the first untethered flight was made by Jean-Franois Piltre de Rozier and Franois Laurent d'Arlandes on Dec 14, 1782 above Paris, France. In retrospect, it seems fitting that the most romantic city in the world was host to this event. While many subsequent forms of air transportation are now available for the purposes of pleasure and travel, the quiet dignity of the hot air balloon has made it the enduring favorite of starry-eyed lovers.

If you are planning to pop the question in a balloon, you should undertake a few preparations to make sure the trip is happy:

Make sure your beloved is not afraid of heights

Make reservations as quickly as possible if you want a specific date

Plan to propose about half way through the rideyou may want to ask your guide if they can recommend a nice spot

Rehearse what you will say

Keep the ring in a secure spot

Take along some chocolate and chilled champagne/fruit juice, for after you pop the question

Ask family members from both sides to meet you at the time and place the balloon lands

Be sincere and speak from the heart

Hot air balloons have long been associated with romance and adventure. From taking in the cityscape to admiring the countryside, its hard to imagine a more beautifully surreal experience.

Proposing in a hot air balloon is sure to be an event that warms your loves heart and brings a smile to his/her face through the many long years youll share together. After all, is there a more literal way to cast the world at your beloveds feet?
