subject: I Should Have Started Medical Transcription A Long Time Ago! [print this page] I have an advantage, since I am in my 50's, and have done medical transcription in the past. However, my disadvantage is that I have done the work, but never taken the coursework that will lead to certification! I feel it is very important for me to take this course. Then I will be eligible to sit for my CMT or RMT certification test. After that, more reputable career doors will open for me. I have not taken the time, and made the effort to do classes, and qualify to take a certification test, for two reasons. The first is that I tend to work hard, and do a lot of things for others, but not for myself. I need to stop putting myself and the important things I need, last. Secondly, I have not taken the course work because I have not been able to fit the cost into my bills. However, online medical transcription courses are more reasonably priced than others. I am truly hoping that I can qualify for one of the scholarships for reduced tuition.
I was going to take credit courses through a medical transcription university, to get the same classes, and it would have cost thousands. Even after qualifying for a grant, or a loan, or an older woman returning to school, the price is still very steep. I have worked for over 30 years in medical offices, at hospitals, and at home, doing medical secretary work, transcription, and billing. However, things have changed these days. Employers would rather hire someone with proven course work. That is why I see it is crucial to take this course work. I currently work at a medical lab. As I am getting older, I am experiencing more medical problems. I am finding it harder and harder to get up very early, get ready and dressed, and drive to and from work. I can not wait for the day when I can find a work at home doing a medical transcription job! I am confident I have the skills to do it, and more confident that taking this course will help me improve my knowledge and skills. After I complete this course, the first thing I want to do is contact the ahdi and set myself up to take a CMT or RMT certification test. When I have that, I plan to contact the organizations that the ahdi or this school encourage us to contact for employment. After I have spent some employment time with an organization, and I feel secure that I can make enough money at home, I will be able to quit my current job. That will be a major accomplishment for me, and will improve the quality of my life immensely. I know that when you work at home doing medical transcription, you still have responsibility, since I have transcribed at home before. However, it is a major improvement over having to make it to a place of business daily, in addition to performing the job once you get there. When I can get up in the morning, and start my job right away at home, I will know I have made the right decision!
