subject: Why Noise Never Does Any Good [print this page]

While youth may have many privileges, one of its most priceless gifts can be clear hearing. But many adults that have reached 30 feel their hearing ability diminish.

But as soon as adults get to 65 years, they experience sever hearing loss, and 1 out of every 6 persons experience this. To date, more and more Americans suffer from hearing loss and what's more shocking about this statistics is that these 20 million Americans could have prevented such a condition back then.

What is the reason hearing problems have increased by one third? All fingers point to excessive noise as the source of such troubles. The good news is that unlike other forms of nerve deafness, noise damage can be prevented.

Know between the sounds that annoy you and the noise that can take away your hearing either partially or all of it. Loudness in decibels, kind of noise and the distance from it, length of exposure to the noise measured hours in a day, accumulated through months and years, are some things to consider.

In minutes or hours, the hearing comes back in a person who gets exposed to excessive noise for short hours in an extremely noisy area but he must know how unhealthy this is even if just for a short while.

Permanent hearing loss in different degrees, resulting from sustained or repeated exposure to extreme noise but it changes on the level of loudness and length of exposure time.

The range of decibels begin with 0 which is the lowest possible audible sound to human ears while the sound of a rocket launch, 180 decibels, is the highest.

There will be permanent and inevitable hearing loss once one gets into 180 decibels of noise without ear protection. Two extremes dominate the usual noises we here everyday.

During extreme traffic or hustle and bustle in a restaurant, the decibels could reach up to 70 but when inside a silent living room or office, its rating would only be 40 decibels. Something higher than that puts you at great risk.

For instance, 80 decibels represent an alarm clock that is two feet away, or perhaps factory noise. A lot of harm can be caused once exposed to such sounds for eight straight hours.

Indeed this would be a reward for not hitting the button on your clock plenty of times.

Hearing damage sets in just eight hours after being exposed to the noise from shop tools, truck traffic and lawn mowers and for just two short hours, blasting headphones and chainsaws can already cause hearing loss.

Noise that reaches the level of 120 decibels can reduce noise levels by 30 is laden with instantaneous harm, standing during a concert close to a speaker or in close proximity to sandblasting or a thundering thunderclap means immediate damage.

Being too close to some gunshot kinds or jet machine noise will not only being pain to the ears but it may rid your ears of some if not of all of its hearing ability.

And the best deal is? Make sure to stay far from noise and protect your ears always. As often as you can, reduce hearing threats.

It is best to always check the volume levels of your TV and stereo.

Instances that cannot be controlled and are excessively noisy should not be entertained. The exposure time should be reduced when dangerous levels of noise cannot be helped.

You should put on protection for the ear, whether it is a pair of ear muffs or ear plugs. Noise is significantly reduced by 30 decibels and they are very inexpensive.
