subject: Reading Rental Car Policy Is Worth The Time [print this page]

Take some time and save a lot more than a dime. When you rent a car, you want to get out of the airport and on to where you need to be for vacation. That's why you are there in the first place. After standing in airport security lines, flying miles over America, then waiting for baggage, you don't want to stand in line at the rental car agency and then read through a long contract with a lot of fine print, but if you take the extra time to read the contract you won't have to worry about the curveballs that come flying your way if a problem arises.

There are many different issues that are outlined in these documents and while it may be time consuming to read through these documents it is something that you must do for your own protection. Within these documents you will find out exactly what the company's policy is about accidents and roadside services. Now, hopefully this information will not be needed but sitting in the dark on the side of the road trying to figure out what to do next could be an even bigger hassle.

Nobody expects to get into an accident when they are driving their rental car on a vacation, but it happens and every rental car company handles things in a different way. You simply can't believe that if you rent a car at one place that the terms and agreements will be the same at the next agency. If even one thing goes wrong, you might think you are taken care of, but you also may be in for a bad experience.

Within the rental agreement you will also find out information about the condition in which you need to return the vehicle in as well as issues about refueling and such. There may even be information contained in these documents about toll charges and about other responsibilities that you have regarding this vehicle. It is important to know what the rental company is responsible for as well as your rights and responsibilities regarding this vehicle.

Yes, it is fun to just get to the hotel and unpack and head to the beach, but those 10 minutes it takes to read and, most importantly understand you contract, it is worth the time. The beach will be there forever, but your rental car is a more pressing concern at the time. Read the contract, and then go have some fun.
