Edge retention which is how long the edge or sharpness of the blade will last, ductility and strength which means how much force your blade can withstand and finally corrosion resistance which is how well your blade can be protected from the elements of Mother Nature as well as yourself.
Buck's process of the combination of raw elements they use determines the level of quality and desired Rockwell Hardness of their knives.
