subject: Your Guide To Christian Drug Rehab [print this page]

Christian Drug Rehab, as the name clearly implies, is a rehabilitation environment where skills for battling addiction involve some form of relationship to God.

However most faith-based rehab centers don't have a belief in God as a prerequisite for admittance.

It's not surprising that there is a clear empahsis on religious values in centers that offer Christian drug rehab.

What most people want to know is...does it work?

So here's a quick look at the pros and cons of this specialized treatment, and help people understand whether it will work for them or their loved ones.

The Pros of Christian Drug Rehab

Not that different from secular adolescent drug rehab--just the higher power is identified.

Some programs focus on a relationship with God--and less on the addiction itself--which can be good for some clients do not respond well to criticism.

For teens and adolescents who have a Christian background, this type of program can be a good way to get them to accept help.

Despite the fact that there isn't much conclusive data, many centers of this persuasion tout amazing success rates.

Christian Drug Rehab Cons

Not all drug rehab centers are created equal, and this is even more so with Christian drug rehab centers. If the emphasis is too far away from standard, accepted forms of addiction therapy, than the client can miss out on a thoroughly transformative experience.

If the young teen or adolescent has no Christian background, or that background is fraught with emotional radioactivity, than I would look in a direction.

So What Do You Do?

It's important for people to ask themselves, what would be the most comfortable rehab environment for the client. Keeping this in mind will ensure the focus on recovery, not relgious conversion.
