subject: Warehouse Supplies For Stacking And Storage [print this page]

What is a warehouse? In essence, it is a place for the storage of wares, just as the name implies. Of course, it is not generally a place for storing materials indefinitely, but the majority of warehouse supplies are designed for the efficient storage of items that range from the smallest screws to the largest steel beams.

The largest storage systems in the warehouse are the large racks that are designed to house goods for forklift handling. These include cantilever racks and pallet racks. There are a number of varieties of each of these to suit different purposes.

Aside from racks designed for heavy goods and forklift accessibility, there are dozens of other types of racks that might be needed in the warehouse. Portable racks for storing and moving large numbers of boxes are commonly used in commercial warehouses in order to facilitate the handling of boxes. These can be stored compactly and removed easily when they are needed.

Another versatile storage system is the stackable U-rack. U-racks are designed to be stacked up to 4 units high and can be placed close together when needed for holding heavier loads or further apart for less demanding loads. They can be accessed by forklift or individuals materials can be removed by hand if desired.

Shelving systems are essential warehouse supplies and their are innumerable systems available to suit any specific or general purpose. Some of these may be light duty shelving units for small parts or light-weight goods and others may be heavy-duty and can safely store thousands of pounds of heavy materials. They may have fixed or adjustable steel shelves or they may have wire shelves. Whatever the need, there is a purpose-made steel shelving unit.

Some items need to be stored behind closed doors. Here again, there are innumerable options available that include everything from personal lockers for the staff to small parts cabinets and modular drawer cabinets. They can be as small as a nine plastic drawer cabinet for housing small numbers of screws or as large as a garage, for storing dangerous and restricted use goods.

As with all the shelving units, storage bins also come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, each of which is designed for a specific purpose. These bins may be plastic, steel or may be tough but inexpensive and disposal corrugated fiberboard. Other plastic, corrugated or wire storage containers may be stackable for efficient use of space or interlocking, in order to make orderly and immovable rows of containers.

Warehouses create waste and waste receptacles are needed for storage of that waste. These, too, are designed differently and serve different purposes. In the public outdoor areas, you may need to have some decorative yet unobtrusive looking stone panel trash holders. You may require some cigarette butt containers outside the loading docks. Every desk in the office will need a wastebasket and in the warehouse large waste receptacles will be needed.

The number and variety of storage solutions that a warehouse needs is mind boggling. The catalog of storage containers that a warehouse supplies company will sell is huge. When you look at the storage needs of a single warehouse, it looks as if a warehouse is really an intricate nested system of smaller "warehouses" that work as a unit to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
