subject: Increase Reading Speed With These Tips And Suggestions [print this page]

We learn how to read at a very early age and while some of us take it up as a hobby, others do it only when they absolutely need to. Regardless of that fact, the question that arises is- do all of us really comprehend the words that we read? Surprisingly, this question is usually asked by those who love to read because they find themselves at a dead-end every now and then.

What you need to do is learn such a skill that will help you eliminate these problems by tapping in your latent potential. This way, you will not only get your self-confidence back but also be able to spend more time with your favorite books. Therefore, to increase reading speed, you need to keep the following tips and suggestions in mind-

1- Log onto the internet and ask Google to tell you all about some of the best speed reading courses available on the web. If that doesnt appeal to you, you can always download a software that will guide you through the process as per your needs and requirements.

2- To increase reading speed in the correct manner, you should also modify the speed that you use to read in accordance with the instructions assigned to different reading materials. In other words, you will have to read fast at some points and slow at the others. This may sound unnecessarily complicated right now but once you get a hang of it, you will know what to do.

3- If you find it difficult to understand most of the books you read, it is recommended that you go through the preview before you dive into the story. This way, you will be familiar with the basic gist of the plot and once you get interested, you will be able to figure out the book at a much faster speed.

4- If you tend to forget the story as you move through chapters, try not to go back and re-read as this will only confuse you. Instead, write out such phrases and words that are crucial to the story as you read- this way, you can always go back to them!

5- A survey revealed that most people had trouble reading not because they werent interested, but because there were too many distractions around them. If this sounds familiar to you, make sure that you find a quiet spot to do your reading.

6- The best way to increase reading speed is to quiz yourself at the end of every, say, two chapters.

7- Last but not the least, always remember to concentrate on nothing but your book when you are reading. You may think that this is the most obvious tip till now but truth is that most of us tend to multi-task from a very early age and this is the main reason for a slow reading speed.

So always remember- if there is a will, there is a way! Best of luck!
