This area of biomechanics and engineering is becoming increasingly important as people spend more and more time seated at their work desks. Modern office desks should not only allow for ample space for desk and work equipment, but they must also be adjustable to suit the desk user and the user's desk chair. In fact, it's not uncommon for modern office desks to come as a complete set with ergonomic chairs, to help people work in a safe and healthy environment.
The desk itself may be curved, straight or a corner desk and the suitability of each of these depend on the work being carried out on the desk, the office layout, and of course, the personal taste of person responsible for the office interior design scheme!
Another feature of modern office desks is the fact that they tend to come with mobile draw pedestals, rather than fixed draw pedestals. This is in part due to ergonomics and individual need, as well as enabling more flexible office and home office layouts.
Materials wise, modern office desks aren't significantly different from their predecessors wood, MDF and glass desks are all still common materials, with matte, gloss or frosted plastics and glass still regarded as the defining modern' look. However, where some desks used to be coated in melamine, contemporary office desks tend to be foiled wrapped, for increased durability against daily wear and tear.
