subject: The Chimpanzees [print this page] Chimpanzees are members of what is known as the Hominidae family and are classified together with humans, gorillas and orangutans. They are the closest living relatives to humans and during the human evolution about 6 million years ago they split on their own way. That's according to the human evolution theory that says that human and the animal used to look the same and had similar behaviors. There are two common types of the species namely the Common Chimpanzee and the Bonobos.
Chimpanzees especially the Bonobos are found on the Democratic Republic of Congo whereas the others are natives of the West and Central Africa. The Bonobos are distinguished from the others through anatomical differences. The Bonobos are light in color and their sexual and social behavior is different from the others. The other type moves in troops led by an alpha male and has its own omnivorous diet. Bonobos tend to have frequent sex in order to resolve their conflicts. However the others are sometimes highly aggressive.
Chimpanzees are very intelligent and make their own tools which they use to hunt and for social displays. They can be easily tamed and they understand human language and symbols after some bits of training. Their laughter is sadistic and it's adapted to that of the humans. The adults are usually aggressive and territorial and they are sometimes known to kill others. They kill lower order primates like the red colobus and bush babies and use their meat as social tool for interaction within their community. The animals have been kept as pets in some African communities though this is highly discouraged.
