subject: Give Waste a Purpose [print this page]

Waste is generated in all sorts of waysWaste is generated in all sorts of ways. Its composition and volume largely depend on consumption patterns and the industrial and economic structures in place. It is considered to be the end product of both natural and artificial processes such as manufacturing, chemical reactions, and even events in biochemical pathways. With continuous population growth and industrial development waste has become one of the major problems worldwide. But to other people and industries wastes are not just waste that cause problems in various communities. These wastes can also become a resource and a material supply for producing products. There is an underlying philosophy nowadays for many industries, which is to make something useful out of wastes . They are now recycling and destroying wastes to be used for different products.

Nevertheless, we all know that not all wastes are recyclable and there are forms of wastes that could take million years before they decompose. So how do we get rid of these without harming our environment? There are now technologies that recycle and destroy wastes in a manner that doesn't harm the environment. One of these technologies is the biosphere process or biosphere technology, a gasification process wherein it harnesses the combustibility of solid wastes (MSW) to create a heat source that produces super-heated steam via boiler. Then this super heated steam will be used to drive a combination stream turbine/alternator that will generate green electricity. Moreover, in its entire process other by-products are also produced such as gallons of distilled water, carbon black, pozzolanic ash and high alloy steel wire. If this will be used by all countries it can certainly provide a permanent environmental waste solution through effectively destroying waste and at the same time gives solution to the energy problem we have worldwide.

In the Philippines, they have started considering this technology through the initiatives of SBSC (Spectrum Blue Steel Corporation). SBSC is a company which has an exclusive license to market, sell, or lease, install, and operate the Biosphere Process in the Philippines. Right now it has existing biosphere projects agreements with some of the local government units in the country. The company believes that the realization of this biosphere process worldwide is the best way to achieve a zero waste society.

Giving waste a purpose towards a better world that's what this technology assures. For more information about biosphere technology log on to http://spectrumbluesteel.com
