subject: Spain by air? Heck Yeah! Discover which airline you should choose [print this page]

The largest country on the Iberian Peninsula and a former Roman province - Spain - due to its geography, climate, food and culture has been an evergreen tourist destination for many years.

Tourists are flooding to Spain year round for a couple of reasons, like beach tourism, sightseeing architecture, sea food, night life, skiing, Gaudi, Dali, and running with the bulls. This short enumeration of reasons for Spain's popularity may have given you an incentive to head there.

For all you how wonder how to get there by air a handful of suggestions.

These days the choice of the means of transport is not between a classic airline and a buss trip across Europe meaning either an expensive airfare and comfort of a short trip or a cheaper fare and the hardships and inconveniences of a long-lasting trip as the competition on the aviation market is way bigger than before. Let us take a look at a couple of alternatives.

Firstly, we will take a closer look at the carrier whose very name is easily associated with our destination - Spanair. This Barcelona-based carrier, which was originally a subsidiary of Scandinavian Airlines, has got its main office in Barcelona. With its fleet of 43 planes and

a network of destinations covering the most of Europe, this Star Alliance member is one of the alternatives when travelling both to Spain and on domestic routes within Spain.

All in all Spanair is a well-established carrier and a natural choice for many. The downside is that while with a little bit of luck you can get a cheap fare, Spanair is still not exactly the cheapest on the market. It has to be said that the cheapest fares displayed on the carrier's web site do not always reflect what the real expences are. Our suggestion is to pay attention to their domestic flights as there one can find quite an offer from time to time.

Secondly Vueling a carrier which, just as the previous one, is also a Barcelona-based airline. It is also a success story. The airline launched its operations in 2004, subsequently quickly increased the fleet size to almost 40 planes and in 2009 was highly rated in its class by Skytrax. This carrier should be interesting for us as it kicks off pretty comprehensive promotions on a regular basis. With prices dropping often to 30, 40 and a relatively wide selection of served airports, we have the reason to keep an eye on their website. We suggest you focus on a couple main airports such as Seville, Paris or Madrid so as to increase your chances of getting a bargain of a ticket price.

The third and last highlight is Transavia. As opposed to Spanair and Vueling, this carrier does not have its headquarters in Spain. Transavia a Netherlands-based part of the KLM-Airfrance group.

The reason we mention it is that Transavia seems a good choice for all travallers going to Spain who choose airports such as Paris, Amsterdam or Copenhagen as their point of departure. The average promotional airfare will cost you around 60 but provided you are patient you can easily go down by 10 or even 20 Euros.

So much for the theory, now for booking. We do hope you found our suggestions somehow inspiring.
