subject: Columbia And Magenta - Thoughts On Rocky Horror Picture Show Costumes [print this page] There are many characters in the Rocky Horror Picture Show but there are a few that really stick out amongst all the others. Those four are Columbia, Riff-Raff, Magenta and the most popular character of them all the lovely Frank-N-Furter. What these four characters also have in common is they all have costumes that are made and ready to sell for any of the fans that are seeking to dress up. Some people prefer to make their own but for those of you who are too busy or wouldn't know where to begin I'll discuss the Magenta and Columbia Costumes.
Columbia is a very bizarre character in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I guess when you really think about it she's no more bizarre than any of the other characters. She definitely is the most colorful. One way to make this a morbid couple's costume is to have your boyfriend dress up as Eddie. You're already going as characters from a morbid show so having the outfits to match can only help.
When my friends and I attended a Rocky showing one year I noticed someone who took the outfit that was for sale in stores and added a real top hat that she colored gold. It worked very well and complimented that costume very nicely.
Magenta is a somewhat standard costume that is very, very easy to pull off. It can also be very bland and boring because it is so standard in design. Taking a different scene from the film or musical and manipulating it to fit that particular scene is what I would recommend. You really should do something to stand out. Otherwise you're stuck with a boring costume.
To pull off the Magenta costume, my friend took the standard costume that was in the stores, picked a scene from the film and modified it to fit that scene. I must say it turned out very nice. I'll bet if you follow the same example you can pull it off nicely as well.
