subject: Understanding Off The Grid [print this page]

Off the grid is a different life style for the people who wish to live an eccentric life by having a house that can produce all the energy and power for itself. Having a house like this means not needing common life supporting supplies including electricity, water, sewer and gas. The house has its own mechanisms to cover up for the needs. For example, wind or solar system is used for the electrical power. The source for water is all natural.

This concept was not very popular until the very recent time; however, the idea is not new. In the recent years, it became popular as many celebrities started to use this off track method. As for 2006, there were over 180,000 families used this system in their house, which is thirty three percent more than the previous year.

There is also the water issue, and for that reason, these houses are usually located near a water source, like a lake or a stream. Usually, the water that is used in these houses comes from a natural source and they are filtered before they are used. Because of the low source and high cost, most of the users are very careful about using the water.

Similarly, for cooking and other fire related issues, this system depends on the nature. Natural resources like coal or wood is used. Using wood, however, is not a very good idea. But this can give good result if the user do not waste is. And no matter what, this type of living requires a lot of consideration and sacrifice.

The OTG can be the solution for the power problem that many countries in the world are having now. It can also be the ultimate source of related problems in the near future. But to make that possible, the scientists have to find a way to reduce the cost.
