subject: How Different Are Laser Liposuction And Standard Liposuction Procedures? [print this page]

Liposuction is a difficult procedure for the body to handle. The use of a special laser has made the procedure a much easy process from the surgeon to perform and the patient to recover. Laser liposuction is a less abrasive procedure compared to the standard surgical procedures used to remove fat from the body.

With standard liposuction tools are used to force the fatty cells to loosen. Then a tool is used to suck the fatty cells out of the body. With the laser procedure a special laser is used to melt the fatty cells inside the body without the need of an incision. Then small incisions are made to suck the liquid fat out of the body.

Local anesthesia combined with the less invasive procedure cuts down on the costs of liposuction. The laser simply requires the use of a local anesthetic as apposed to a patients being put out completely. Local anesthesia is less expensive of its self and is also easier for the surgeons to create an out patient situation. The out patient opportunity helps save time and money for both the patient and the doctor.

The laser work is easier and the recovery is a much faster process. There is less swelling, bruising, and scaring do to the laser capable abilities. This is the most desirable aspect of laser liposuction compared to other options. Doctors are able to place a girdle on their patients for as little as four days to create the right shape and healing. Usually with the standard procedure the girdle would need to be worn for up to six weeks and the healing process would be much longer.

The standard procedures are done with the use of a surgical tool called a cannula. The cannula is placed in the incision made in the fatty area. The surgeon then uses an enormous amount of pressure to loosen the fatty areas of the body in order to make it possible for the extraction of the fatty cells. This creates a lot of bruising and soreness to the patient. It also adds a lot of time to the healing process. It can take weeks or months in order to fully recover.

Laser liposuction on the other hand has been dubbed or called "lunch time lipo." Under normal circumstances patients are able to have laser liposuction and then return to work the next day. This nickname stems from the easiness of the procedure compared to the standard surgical conditions.

Potential patients should take time to speak with their doctor before making the decision to have liposuction treatments, whether they are laser or standard procedures. Look for a seasoned surgeon. Many cosmetic surgeons are using laser liposuction and have reasonable experience to help patients get the best results. This is very important to the health, the results and the healing process.
