subject: Hunting Archery Equipment - 3 Tips To Keep In Mind [print this page]

There is something about archery hunting that gets in your blood. After you've seen the deer, waited for the ideal shot, drawn your bow, released your arrow, and watched it fly... you're addicted! There is nothing else like it. Here are three tips to help you make the correct hunting archery equipment choices.

First, get the correct equipment for your size and shape. Frequently new hunters make emotional choices based on appearances or what somebody else has instead of making a good fit. Find a reputable archery shop and have your draw measured. It is a good idea to have a bow that has a draw length that's around half an inch shorter than measured. Remember, you will be wearing quite a bit of attire when you hunt with that bow.

Second, now that you know your draw length, you will know the arrow length to buy. Try to stay with the same manufacturer for your bow, rest, and quiver. You wouldn't try to use Nintendo games in a Wii, it just wouldn't work. If you are uncertain about what arrow would be correct for your bow, look at the manufacturer's specification for which of their arrows fits your bow.

And third, get a high quality, light gathering bow sight. A lot of your hunting will be done in dim lighting and you'll be pleased you have a light gathering sight. You'll make a lot more shots with a good sight. Don't miss this tip! Nothing is more annoying than having a flaw-less target in faulty lighting. Trust me, this is not an extra.

These three tips will offer you a good firm start for your hunting archery equipment, though don't worry, you'll not run out of things you'll want once you're well and truly hooked. After all, you are going to want the Fred Bear Archery DVDs, an arrow rest and stabilizer, a digital grain scale, an arm guard, and a really cool hat . . .
