subject: Acting Teachers - A Breed Of Their Own [print this page]

Surprisingly enough many actors when they retire don't go on to be acting teachers like in other industries that people retire from. Acting teachers are a specific breed of individual. There have been some extremely famous acting teachers through out history many of which were never actually actors themselves.

Many of these teachers choose not to have a career in acting but instead prefer to be behind the scenes and train other people in the craft.

You will find these teachers at universities, performing arts schools and private occasions. They can work as tutors in the field or as full time teachers. Normally when they're working for a university they may have some acting experience on the stage, or are most likely degreed in one of the older acting art forms.

Performing arts schools typically are geared toward the younger crowd, high school age, so these teachers may have lower degrees in the performing arts. In the private sector, these kinds of teachers could be focused on one particular aspect of acting, like diction.

It's hard to believe but some acting teachers actually are certified speech therapists. When you look at it completely it actually makes a great deal of sense. A speech therapist focuses on the way that a person speaks. This of course is helpful when an actor is trying to shed an accent or when they are trying to improve how to project their voices.

Speech therapists can easily cross over to become acting teachers. They've a prosperity of knowledge when it comes to speaking and proper diction.

This could be a extremely lucrative career for anybody with the right credentials and a go get them attitude. Working in the private sector and charging by the hour the income could be very generous. An important part of being a good actor is being able to speak well.

Acting teachers play an invaluable roll in creating great actors. Although they are rarely recognized by the actors collecting awards they should be. Many a great actor was created by an excellent acting teacher. Without the instruction that they provide actors would be clueless of how to go about their craft. No one is born to act, actors are created and should think about these great teachers that work quietly behind the scenes sharing their knowledge with those that want to get within the front of the scenes.
