subject: How To Discover The Conception Date Of A Baby Without A Chart [print this page]

If you are curious about the day your baby was conceived, more than likely you have come across several calculators where instant results are given. These are somewhat accurate, but for a more precise method learn how to discover the conception date of a baby in this article.

How Did I Conceive So Quickly

Believe it or not, it is possible to get pregnant before ovulation begins. This is because sperm can remain alive in a female's reproductive system for days. If intercourse were to occur during this time, there is a chance of a woman getting pregnant. Because each woman is different, it is not possible to pinpoint how many days each month she ovulates, but it has been noted that there are between three to six days each month in which a woman can get pregnant.

Conception Dates Calculated

Some women get one date initially but as the pregnancy progresses the date changes. This is because the chart method is not totally accurate, but used to give an approximate due date. Although sonograms are the most recognized method of determining the size and weight of a baby to determine their age, moms can use their own calculations to determine due dates as well as conception dates.

Backwards Conception Calculation

Write down the first day of previous period. Now write down the date you were expecting your next period, which did not occur because you were pregnant.

If you have a 28 day cycle, you will subtract 14 days from the first date you had your previous period. If you were expecting a period to start on June 30th, subtracting 14 days would give you the most probably date of conception. This date would be June 16th.

Basically, you count backwards 14 days from the date you expected to start your previous period.

If your cycles are typically longer than every 28 days you can use two different methods of calculation. This will provide two different, but closely relates dates. Changes are pregnancy occurred during this time frame. Using this method you add 14 days to the day of your last period or subtract 14 days from the period you just missed.

There are two examples of these methods. With missed period on May 15th, adding 14 days gives you a May 29th date. With the date of the last period June 15th, subtracting 14 days brings you to June 1st. This essentially means pregnancy occurred between May 29th and June 1st.

Naegles Rule is a formula that calculates your estimated due date based on the average pregnancy lasting 280 days from the your last period. This is a little more complicated but not too difficult to calculate. Add 7 days to the first day of your previous menstrual period, subtract three months, then add one year. This gives you the estimated due date. Now subtract 38 weeks or 266 days from your expected date of delivery to get the date your baby was conceived.

There is no proven method to tell exact dates. There are no charts, doctors, or calculators that can do the math on that. What you can be certain of is that your little one will bring you happiness and joy for years to come.
